Kim Bolen RN CCM ACM You need to add some tags to get better coverage - going to add the Marines! Agree with the author of this article, we should never lose a service member to hazing or any type of misconduct. It doesn't serve any of the branches well when something like this happens. We need to and all other need to reserve opinions until the investigation is complete. If misconduct or hazzy was the cause of death then the Marine Leadership will handle it appropriately. I really agree with the last comment:

As Gen. Jim Mattis once told me, "Every time we kill a Marine in training, we have done the enemy's job for him."

Agreed...this is where the line between training and torture is crossed. Hazing has nothing to do with training. Hazing is about bullying and tearing someone down. Training is about toughening someone up and building character.

Hazing is a big part of the Marine culture. And not just at the recruit depots.

The whole recruit training experience is an adventure in hazing.

It works.

But there is hazing and there is hazing. No one should be anywhere close to dying from hazing.

While I haven't read any Marine's reactions to this tragic event, I can only imagine what was said.

But on the other hand, from what I've read I'm not so sure this was hazing. The recruit was apparently suicidal and supposedly leapt to his death. I'll reserve my judgment until the truth (hopefully) comes out.
