I believe this article to be mostly BS. ProPublica was the brainchild of billionaires and Democratic donors Herbert and Marion Sandler, the former chief executives of the Golden West Financial Corporation.

Ya, I wasn't sure about the pedigree of ProPoblica, so took a chance there was some truth. Still sounds plausible given how people with that wealth operate.
