Equal Opportunity means just that. This country is built on a foundation of equality, freedom and justice.........and with that there is a ton of work to be done. I understand some people have issues with the policy, so be it. Salute and move out smartly. Execute the legal orders and demonstrate the foundation the country was built on. Equality for all. Native Americans are the only folks who were here first, after that we kinda just took it and decided what is right. We can't go back in time, and we have a pretty good system here, I'm not bashing it, just happy to be practicing what we preach.

I have noticed very few infantrymen have responded to this post SGM Erik Marquez. LTC Bill Koski served in the infantry and he mentioned me so that is why I am responding.
Time will tell as to whether the decision will be regarded as good for the military. There are always individuals who will excel despite the odds.
The women who completed Ranger School may well excel in the combat arms.
By and large I do not think it is good for the military or for the women service members to push the idea that women should be integrated through the depth and breadth of the military specialties [MOSs]. I would recommend that women be sent in groups no less than four to any unit they are being integrated in. This will provide a base of support for them - lesson learned from my time at West Point long ago.
Background: I was part of the first USMA, West Point class which included women when we reported in July 1976 to West Point. The military academy is always challenging. The full force of the US Congress and DoD were behind integrating the service academies. The process was toughest on the women so that 62 out of 119 who entered graduated while the overall class graduated 913 out of the 1400 plus who entered.
I am a trained and experienced infantry officer who also commanded and served in several capacities at the US Army Infantry Training Center from 1985 to 1989 at Fort Benning

LTC Bill Koski
LTC Stephen F. see folks, we can have a different opinion on a subject and it matters not what we think of each other. Simply contrast of ideas, no inflammatory language or rhetoric.
