Until weapons acquisition became centralized in DoD, each service chose its individual weapons according to its own needs. The Marine Corps has a history of going its own way. In the Civil War, while the Army was almost uniformly armed with .58 rifle-muskets or cavalry carbines, the Corps used a number of different weapons, including the Navy-developed .69 cal Plymouth rifle. In the 1890s, the Army adopted the .30-40 Krag rifle, while the Marine Corps went with the 6mm Lee Straight-Pull rifle. During the early 1900s, the Army went with the .38 Colt revolver, while the Marine Corps chose the .45 Colt M1909. In WWII, the Marines developed their own sniper rifles, as they did again in Vietnam and up to the present. So I see no problem with the Corps adopting the M27 as long as it suits their needs. Since the ammo will be interchangeable with whatever weapon the Army chooses in the 2020s, I see no problem except that the M27 is kind of pricey, but the Corps is probably getting all the bells and whistles with them.

It sound like price may be the prime obstacle not being acquainted at all with the M27 I can't offer a valid an opinion on it operation. Springfield 03, later M1, M1 and M2 Carbines and the M16 however were all very effective. long after the Springfield 03 was replaced by the M1 Garand a scope was added and it was still used as a sniper rifle. All of those were very accurate.
You mention in pistols the Army and it followed later Air Force used the 38, ( So did the Navy at one point) there is no way that had the stopping power of the 45. It seems that was a good choice on the part of the Marines and other services did follow with the 1911 Colt, ACP. You mention a few other weapons the Marines used which I know nothing about. It primarily Army and Air Force small arm I became acquainted with.
