It just goes to show the tragic suspect between our military and the greater population the problem is this informations not hard to get you just Google US military presence and you will see all the locations Niger included where the US military's currently posted at and even fairly accurate troop count of how many troops are in country.

LTC Jeff Shearer - I definitely can see and understand your view. However, that is not what is creating the problem. The problem is that those in positions of political power are stating that it needs to be investigated as to what is going on, when they very well should know what is going on, especially when the information is and has been publicly available for significant periods of time.
As an example there was a DOD Public Affairs report from 2015 on the ongoing training, training exercises, civil affairs activities, etc., from Niger which was posted on a related thread this past week. And then our elected officials go out and publicly state that they have not been informed and have no idea as to what is going on. The congressman's statement is beyond being outrageous. Especially since there are regular DOD Public Affairs reports from various parts of the African continent, and have been since at least 2007. I wonder if we asked that same congressman about Boko Haram and what country they are in, he probably could tell us, but then if we asked him where that country was in relation to Niger, he would probably be like the star struck, high school graduate and college bound, beauty pageant contestant.

Human nature I guess, things ok with troops all over the place as long as nothing goes wrong. Have some issue come up and suddenly we aren't aware of activity and need investigations or someone to blame.
