Is this a sign of a lessening of the marine amphib assault support role? Wasn't that the main reason behind the railgun (longer distance fire support)? Whatever the case.... LASERS!!!

CWO3 Dennis M. - I saw real early designs when I was an Engineer. The power req's are pretty large. But still, I would love to be the TAO, and call out Man Condition 1 Lasers!!!

LT Brad McInnis - Very cool indeed! What in the world will CIC look like in 5 or 10 years? Oh to be young again! Do you remember when they brought the Iowa BB's back, they had to bring the old 16" Gunners back, any chance the Navy will want a 70 year old CWO3 to man the WEC console?.....no, you do not need to answer that question!

CWO3 Dennis M. - Wasn't there a movie like that with Steven Segal? In all honesty, I would welcome the experience!

LT Brad McInnis - Me too! But I am no Steven Segal! But On the USS Bainbridge CGN-25, after she was outfitted with the latest and Greatest (of the time) SM-2 Missile, I as WEC & launched a total of 23 missiles with 23 hits. They gave me a ships plaque when I left after almost 4 years on her and it said 23 missiles 23 hits! That beats Segal...right?

I'd still like to see the rail gun developed, but I understand the need to make budgetary choices. I'm happy to see the deployment of lasers. Lasers are potentially the most effective missile defense we could have.
