Each time I am mobilized I have to report in the number of days based on the fiscal year and decide what to give up. Military or VA disability pay. I give up the disability pay each time. I will be a grey area retiree after Aug 7th and will no longer have to give up the disability pay.
Generally the VA disability pay will stop for a while until the VA has collected enough to make up the debt and then turn back on but I usually have to check in and make sure the dependents are showing up correctly in the system.

I can definitely say the VA has not overpaid me. They have stolen money from my retirement and given it back to me tax free al la Robbin Hood though. (Yes I know it's that non-concurrent receipt crud but my description is more accurate.)

I've heard of it happening to a number of people. Especially part-timers who have a rating and are getting a check when they're activated. The VA doesn't shut it off or for some reason sends a lump sum payment for thousands of dollars and then a year or two later decides they want it back. Indian givers....
