Although I know a lot of the info in this article to be true, The second you trotted out Gayle Rivers and "The Five Fingers" you lost all credibility with me. The book WAS very entertaining fiction, but anyone who spent any time on the ground in RVN would quickly see the vast amount of pure bullshit contained therein. Yeah, yeah...a friend of a friend told me....This is no shit....there I was....Dont trash up your data with fictional bullshit. There are much better portrayals of RVN heroics. The small teams that dropped into the Ho Chi Min trail after bomb strikes to run the gauntlet doing BDAs comes to mind.

Yes the French colonized Indochina back in 1859 and maintained a government until the Japanese drove them out in the early 1940s. During the war against the Japanese Ho Chi Minh was a US ally against the Japanese. Once the War was over and we supported France moving back into it colonial authority we alienated Ho Chi Minh.

There was a CIA Operator who move his Hmongs up to the Golden Triangle and went into the opium business. Before him it was Chinese Nationalist Troops left over when the Communist took over. When the Japanese surrendered they turned over two Russian Advisors captured by the Vichy French in the Iron Triangle.
