Remember those days- we would show up early to get close to the doors to rush in and be closer to the stage. Glad they have changed policy on this- mob mentality is scary. Morning SGT John " Mac " McConnell great reminder to some dangers of yesteryear.

Those were good years for concerts. Tickets were cheap and there was plenty of talent. Often, the opening acts were almost unheard of but made a great showing. Some had their concert garb, makeup and really made a big deal about it. For us it was usually a 2-3 hour drive to the nearest venue. Half the fun was getting there and back. As you say, it was common to get there early to get closer to the stage for festival seating events. I remember this tragic concert, and remember things getting pretty tough near the stage of some shows. The pressure of the crowd was intense, and many more could have been injured. Some would pass out from heat exhaustion and they would be passed overhead by the crowd so medical folks could tend to them.

Very sad indeed.. I recall some past concerts that I attended that was scary because of not being able to move. I decided after that . Not to go to big venues anymore. It is just not worth it ! My pleasure to share Maj Marty Hogan .

Thanks SGT John " Mac " McConnell for reminding us about the sad event on December 3, 1979 at Cincinnati’s Riverfront Coliseum when 11 spectators were killed in a stampede outside Who concert as crowd of general-admission ticket-holders to a Cincinnati Who concert surged forward in an attempt to enter Riverfront Coliseum and secure prime unreserved seats inside.
Patience is a rare commodity to concert goers, unfortunately.
It is very sad when crowds surge forwards or backwards because it tends to be the weak, young, old, disabled who bear the brunt of injuries in these cases
Our LORD knows the grief of the survivors and the relatives of those who are killed in what seems to be something which could be avoided.
