You sent me off on another futile search for a book I once heard described in an interview with the author many years, decades, ago: Mother Tongues by Charles Berlitz. Well, I found it thanks to your prod and the Internet which corrected my search criteria. I should have been looking for Native Tongues. Inasmuch as my memory of the title was flawed, I would not trust my description of the book, but "as I remember the interview with Berlitz" it is a study of differences in perception across cultures as evinced in language. In other words, to truly understand a people, you must understand their language. Translations will only lead you astray. This article touches on just one aspect of that premise.

As i replied elsewhere, consider ‘snow’...
California concrete, powder, pea gravel, etc
How many other terms refer to ‘snow’?
