And the CO of the unit I was in was a Vietbam War DFC awardee I'd sat with for an hour once...the O-9 of my installation was a B-17 tauk gunner who'd gotten into West Point while he'd been enlisted, I saw him twice, once in his staff car passing me while I was driving I recognized him I saluted he saluted back, and while I was in TX the commandant had a friend an O-9 who'd been one of the Apollo astronauts over I asked a couple of questions it was for akk the would be science types I'd met another after I'd gotten out later who'd given a speech at a college by us....

You know it's weird...until I'd gone to TX, I never got as engroßsed in that aspect of history as our Dad drowned my next younger brother and myself in Navy...I only got familiar with it at USAF OTS while I was down there, there was a wall with all the USAF MOH awards outside the auditorium, I recall a good many were for Ploesti for the refinery raids in WW2, esp....
