With respect to WEF and CNBC, they have it wrong. Dependability and attention to detail are two completely different skills. And dependability is and always will be #1. Not #7.

I don't care how good your work is, if I can't count on you to SHOW UP, you are useless. Now, for some creative/artistic jobs, such as painters, authors, or such, who work when the muse strikes, this is less true. But A) they are an exceedingly small portion of the work force, B) they are primarily self-employed, and C) even they still have deadlines when working on commission.

The survey data was solicited and collected from senior executives in large multinationals or regional intranational corporations that have an outsized impact on their economy. In other words, small business, public sector, and family companies - the overwhelming majority of jobs in the world - are not accounted for. Additionally, the data comes on from senior executives, who take many skills (like showing up, or honesty) as given, when if you talk to the lower levels of supervision, they will tell you those things are most certainly NOT a given.

I am sure the data is highly useful for many folks. And I do not doubt it's veracity for what it is. But I do doubt its applicability for the common worker.
