I had read of it before theres also another mention on here about it that I'd seen a few days ago where I'd ventured that the same idea might well be revived in the present era as a very likely prospect for new development. Such a concept is typical of notions that arise before technology can catch up yet are most decidedly not science fiction is if you will by any means the concept is highly realistic and a natural outgrowth of naval technology. Look too at the concept of so called Jeep carriers by CDR spig weed in ww2 or the carrier made of an ice wood mix approved initially by Churchill in the UK the Jeep carrier concept was actually depicted in a John Wayne Maureen O'Hara film if you'd all care to look it up. Then too the mulberry ports on d-day in Normandy there are obviously countless other comparable examples I could cite of course.

Thanks for sharing Sgt Joe LaBranche.
Submarines had a great ability to hide in times past and when they were sunk it was harder to find remote submarines with detailed searches.
Thanks for letting us know about the massive Japanese submarine, I-401 which seemed to have been an underwater Aircraft carrier.
