By seeking counseling for their two teenage daughters as their family coped with multiple moves and multiple deployments to Afghanistan, an Army major and his wife unwittingly prevented both girls from following their father, their grandfather and their great-grandfather into military service.

This is why I always said, "Nope, I'm good" and "What, do I look stressed?" whenever the Medical people visited while waiting for de-mob. God only knows what allergies and illnesses are hidden behind my, "NKA" label.
I certainly sympathize, but a long time ago, an older officer gave me some great advice. He said, "I hope you understand that whenever something is a good deal...every effort is made to limit who can get access to it."
Many times, I wonder what's "cheaper" for a Government; to offer employment with real benefits, good pay, and opportunities to advance through a 20 year+ career...or process applications for disability benefits? In the same vein, what society is easier to manage; one that grants freedom to rise by merit alone...or one that grants "guaranteed" mediocrity?
