When a ship is successfully launched, it is said to "swim". "Flying like a bird" is another accepted metaphor. (Not flying like a bat or a bug) It seems that we are inspired to imitate. Indeed, our earliest skills (walking, talking, etc) are all learned through imitation. Thus, I will ask again, why? "Why not" is the war whimper of pseudo-intellectuals like Bobby Kennedy who made the phrase immortal.

CPT Jack Durish, I don't know if I am an odd ball, buttery early in my childhood I can remember have first person of me flying so I would have to say that we would have at some point gone to the skies IMHO
