Saw a few of these in the bazaars in the early days of Afghanistan. I couldn't buy one because they weren't considered "antique enough".

OK, a fine rifle, but changed History? How? It certainly was not the first military bolt action rifle, nor the first modern style cartridge bolt action or the first modern bolt action rifle. I would count the Dreyse Needle Gun as the first successful military bolt action, the Chassapot/Gras as the first successful with self contained metallic cartridges, a toss up between the Lee Navy, Mauser and the Lebel for fully modern rifles using smokeless powder. I would give the Lee Navy some extra points for first box magazine and lighter caliber, 6mm, that we didn't see again until WWII. If I had to give one bolt action military the title of changed history, my call would be the Mauser, which even our legendary 1903 Springfield was based.
