To me it isn't about capability, if someone is willing to break the laws of nature and do something immoral based on their feelings or desires, who's to say they won't be willing to break rules and regulations of the service. Then when we take God into the situation, to me they have thumbed their noses at Him by telling Him He made a mistake in assigning their gender. By making special laws, allowances, considerations, not to mention making their altering surgeries an expense on taxpayers, for LGBT persons, is forcing people to accept their lifestyle as ok. I'm sorry, but I don't see it as acceptable. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate people in the LGBT community, but I don't believe I should be forced to accept their lifestyle as right, natural, normal, or morally right. I am sure this post will raise the ire of that community and their supporters, but this is my opinion and how I see things.

PO1 John Y. - Actually Johns Hopkins started offering gender reassignment in 1965 until 1979 and then started up again this year. So yes more than 30 years ago gender reassignment was a "thing."

Why does god have to be brought into anything? No one knows if there is a god...and IF there is some deity we don't know what it wants. We could be some giant experiment by some advanced life forms. No one knows for a fact. Whatever deity is out there, it does make mistakes. Daily.
My brother is homosexual - he didn't choose it. He was born that way and there are more and more studies to show that it is something people are born with. He said he's known since he was five years old. The only choice he made was hiding it until he was about 19 years old. If he had come out in high school he likely would have been beaten and strung on a fence post like Matthew Sheppard.

so bottom line is some believe it's ok for transgender people to serve in the military and some don't, some believe homosexuality is ok and some don't, and some believe there's a God and some don't. Because both sides require faith, regardless which side you're on you have to stand strong on your position, meaning there's not much someone from the other side can do to change your mind. In the end, we'll see who was right.

Capt Gregory Prickett - How are we incorrect? You make a statement then wonder off like your word is it and that's all we need.I'm glad people were "normal" back when I served. At least we got an explanation.Nowadays you just pop up say something and offer no explanation.

[~203820: 1st Sargent Kerr you not believing in "OUR GOD" is your loss. The majority of people in the military and civilian world do.It's people like you who start the name calling. Can't hold a civil conversation because if we believe in God we're nut-bags.Well you keep on acting like you know it all and I'll just sit back and watch how foolish you appear.

PO1 John Y. - What medical and psych professionals argue that? I can only guess which ones.

This person is a woman who is trying to live in a way she thinks a man lives. She is not and will never be a man. Is she on routine daily/weekly medical treatment to maintain a physical abuse of her body? Would the military accept any woman who must take expensive medicine and mutilate her body in order to maintain some sort of mental calmness? No, why? There is a long list of men and women who are more physically and mentally qualified.

Well there already have been transgender people serving in the military...I know a soldier who transitioned female to male before last year. Went to DS school and passed. This was before they passed the policy so he had to wear female dress uniform but they all called him by male pronouns. No issues.
