This unintended consequence is a direct result of Senator Claire McCaskill's sexual assault policies passed in an effort to ensure the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) retains control. Please help us pass legislation that guarantees due process rights for our service members because making all men out to be "predators" and all women out to be "victims" is not reality.
"The current over-reaction by military leaders to save their own power has also put a huge bullseye with dollar signs on the back of every service member. Not only can those that now hate him or her get revenge, false accusers can get paid hundreds of thousands of tax payer dollars in “victims compensation” while they do it. This has left thousands of veterans “trapped” in abusive relationships, the very thing the military is supposedly trying to eliminate. If they try to separate or get a divorce their spouse or former lover can destroy them with a simple phone call. How many service members are ‘held hostage’ in their own homes in relationships they feel they can’t leave because they are being blackmailed by a former lover?" -Kit Martin, U.S. Army

I was raped while on active duty but I was a unique case. I don't for a second believe the 1 in 5 story they are telling now days. Although in the 90's it was too difficult to report which meant I didn't report now days it's far too common.

I am sorry to hear that Julie! I hope you have recovered from your unfortunate experience. I was raped at 17 before I joined the military. What saddens me is the false narrative that had been spread and our brothers (and some sisters) in arms are experiencing injustices. We are not trying to portray that these sort of things don't happen in the military at all, but that they are not common. There had been over a 600% increase is convictions in sex crimes in the military since 2011. More and more innocent service members will be convicted if we don't fight for due process. We want real justice not a political witch hunt. Thank you for sharing, and I wish you well.

I think my point got confused. I agree with you completely I feel it's a false narrative that rape is occurring in 1 out of every 5 women but they convince these girls that it's true. Then no matter what the victims telling the truth even when she's not.

Which Bill are they referring to in this piece? Sounds like a real possibility, but no different than that currently faced by everyone in the civilian sector under a similar situation. False accusations must be dealt with. Those making false accusations should be dealt with harshly.

We agree that false accusers should be dealt with, but you don't hear this even mentioned in SHARP training. All we hear is 'believe' all victims, when in fact a falsely accused service member could be the real victim.
