This WWII homeless veteran had no family. So 200 strangers showed up for her funeral.

SSG Pete Fleming It's a sad example of gaps in veteran and mental health services out there. I would guess she got lost in the system which places a priority on those they deem a danger to themselves or others. So if she wasn't within that scope, even with mental health issues she probably was left to the streets, due to lack of funds and beds for mental health needs. I'd bet it is the same on the veterans service side as well, which really sucks. If she didn't come to them for help she would be hard to find without any family, as nobody was looking for her. I see this often in my civilian job, contacting and dealing with people with mental health issues. Really sad to see, but nice to see she got the honors she deserved for her service during WWII.

Wonderful to see this show of respect and honor for someone who served. RIP Serina Vine, God Bless you and all those that came to honor you as well. Lets all work to honor her by working to make this country better at caring for our vets needs, especially those who are homeless or who have mental health issues.
