Thanks for sharing. I've been considering a Linux based OS for my next computer. Still unsure. I mean to use the machine primarily for school work (just word processing and such).

SPC (Join to see) - Those are questions. Since you didn't specify what software, I'll have to answer this way:
Libre Office will work with MS Office files
GIMP with images
Firefox/Chrome/Chromium are the norm

The biggest issue you'd have would be with gaming, maybe Skype (use Jitsi instead), and iTunes (many other alternatives).

Anything else, fire away.

I'd say download Linux Mint from linuxmint.com, and upload the iso in Virtualbox, or burn the iso to a DVD and boot from it (it won't overwrite anything).

And sadly, gaming isn't a consideration. No time or money for it. Just boring office stuff.
