This impeachment is such a horrible mess! Democrats are screwing up the country, they know they will have trouble beating Trump during the election so this is simply a fabricated account to take Trump out!

I think it is more contrived to show their electorate that they are "doing something" after being sent to Washington as a check on Trump. It was becoming impossible to ignore the activist wing of the party when they went home to their districts.

Observation from afar as this plays out.
Without getting into the weeds of all those speeches and the facts of the matters at hand, there was much, much talk about "solemn duties to uphold the Constitution" and how they all swear to "uphold and defend (it) against all enemies foreign and domestic". I wonder how that tune will change as they bemoan the need for 67 Senators to vote their way.
This of course coming from the same crowd that loves to talk about eliminating the electoral college, restricting free speech and religion, weakening or eliminating the 2d Amendment... all against the backdrop of scurillously obtained FISA warrants and using foreign intelligence assets to attack a political enemy.
You can't make this stuff up with a straight face. Even by Washington standards, that is diseased.
