Sometimes, they come up insanely cheap... scored mine for a cool two-hundred at a Gander Mtn. of all places. Scavenged the bolt off a full-length sporter-ized Mauser I also own (that's my next project), and had to take the stock down to bare wood and refinish... but she's a contender.

Sometimes, the enemy comes up with something good. I began by looking for an M1903 or Lee Enfield carbine (elusive...like a unicorn), but finally settled on the Mauser. Mine's a Persian model (all nomenclature in what I assume is Farsi) that was (sadly) converted to be too short to accept a bayonet... but "Hedi" can shoot like new money.
The ammo is expensive and hard to get...she requires more maintenance than "Audry" (my little black rifle)...and could use a new stock... but she's one of my favorites.
I added a repro Springfield sling and a leather cheek support...have tried a Mauser scope mount, but find the most efficient use is off the iron-sights.
