I've did that a few years back, I had a feeling that it would go that way, and most of my guns are now 9mm. But, my favorite is the 45ACP, and have 5 handguns in that caliber, I've been shooting my FN 45 lately at the range, and put away the 1911's, there's an old army guy that reloads for the gun ranges here, and 45acp is sold by him for $16 for 50 rounds. Yes, reloads, but it functions real good, and very good at the range, I had a talk with the guy that does all the reloading there, and he told me he loads the rounds a little hot then standard, due to he wants to make sure the rounds do function with most guns, and they do.
I've got some HG 700X powder from them and reloaded 9mm, stayed with manual at 3.7 min to 4.4 max grains with that powder, works fine with the smaller handguns with 3.9 grains, but with the full frame heavy slide guns, it stove pipes, due to the slide not enough energy to kick back the slide all the way rearward. So, this weekend, the 9mm rounds will be loaded with 4.2 grains of 700X, to see how it will perform with the full frame handguns, and I'll have a few rounds with 4.4 grains, in case.
40cal ammo, is almost non-existence, but if you find it, like $48 for 20 rounds, cheaper to get a 22cal conversion kit for the handgun.
Take care, brother Gene

SGT (Join to see) - it’s so nice to hear from you Carl. I am still debating with myself over the 9mm issue. I know that I can buy hot loads but I do want for my wife and I to practice with adequate rounds, that properly eject the spent casings. When I get moved to Arkansas in less than a month, I will delve into the issue with more enthusiasm. Blessings my friend.

PO1 H Gene Lawrence - Good to hear, I do know from reviews that the cheaper cost rounds are loaded at the minimum with power. Which makes sense, low cost, lower in performance, functional in most guns. I've pulled bullet heads off factory ammo, and usually it's a little hot to function the guns.
Military ammo is way up there in getting the power up to function, in a sense, even if the firearm is fouled up with carbon.
