Treasury: No, Iran Is Not Getting $150 Billion From The Nuclear Deal

There's a lot of emotion tied to the release of Iran's frozen assets, especially because of the media circus Iran created just before and after the Nuclear agreement went into effect. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that Iran had taken loans from China using the frozen assets as collateral. I couldn't locate that article but I came across this one that explains what Iran will be receiving. Note Saudi Arabia took a stab at Iran at this critical moment of the sanctions being removed by not reducing oil production when oil prices were dropping thereby causing the oil prices to continue to drop as Iran came into the market with 400,000 barrels of oil selling at a low of $30 per barrel depriving them of income.
"WASHINGTON -- Iran will receive approximately $55 billion in sanctions relief once the nuclear deal is implemented, said Treasury Secretary Jack Lew. He explained that Iran will not be able to access much of its money that has been locked up overseas due to sanctions because the money has already been committed elsewhere. Lew told a group of senators that over $20 billion of Iran’s frozen assets has already been committed to infrastructure projects with China, and that Iran owes an additional "tens of billions" of dollars on nonperforming loans to its energy and banking sectors. Lew estimated that Iran’s demand for domestic investment surpasses $500 billion, and that it will cost between $100 billion and $200 billion to restore production levels in its oil and gas sector. “I have never argued that a penny can’t be put to a malign purpose,” Lew said. “But this is not going to change the shape of Iran’s resources for good or bad purposes.”"
