How about instead of trying to destroy the country you don't like (rip all the wiring out, etc.), why don't people like this move to a country they do like... like Russia for example?

SFC (Join to see) - First, I don't give a crap about your opinion of the Human Rights Declaration and how it is implemented. You asked how other governments protect things like the freedom of speech and I gave you and example. Your opinion of the example has nothing to do with it... and that is exactly what I mean when I say you confuse your strongly held opinions and beliefs with facts. Here is another tip... just because someone long ago, like Thomas Jefferson, the father of modern liberalism, expressed an opinion does not make it a fact. It may be a principle, but it is not a fact. A fact is a different thing all together. It is a fact that he wrote it, but it is still his stated opinion of a principle and purpose of government. An interpretation.

And yes, rights do have limitations. Can you purchase a TOW missile system? Can a convicted felon legally purchase and own firearms? Can you yell fire in a crowded theater? The answer to all these questions are "no". Every Constitutional right has limits. I will post a good lesson of rights at the end. Again, you don't have a firm grasp of the topic.

WRT the FBI and the parents you speak of... were they merely objecting to a curriculum at a school board meeting, or were they making threats of violence and intimidation against school board members? You may not have the whole story, or just choosing to ignore the parts you don't like? The media may be telling you the FBI has "flagged" parents that attend school board meetings, but is that something you know for certain, or just something you have been told? If you say you know it for certain, HOW do you know it for certain... beyond Fox News or Republican politicians said it was true? Remember, it isn't what you know that gets you in trouble, it's what you know for certain that just ain't so.

I know what fucking amendment I was talking about. You will need to study more to sharpshoot me. It is a FACT that the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States states: "No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

In comparison, the 4th Amendment deals with personal property rights: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized"

I know... you have equated the 4th Amendment with due process for so long you don't think you could possibly be mistaken as they are often cited together, but the direct reference to due process of law is found in the 14th. Again, just imagine all the other things you could be wrong about.

Moving on... "It’s [the government] not there to provide medical care, provide a retirement pension, give you housing, food, or anything else" (your words) ... again, that is YOUR interpretation. Others may interpret promoting the general welfare and securing the blessings of liberty more broadly. Your personal opinion and interpretation is just that... yours and maybe people like you, but it is not the only one or necessarily the right one just because it is yours. And I have to say, the more you speak, the less I value your opinion.

MSgt Steve Sweeney - Thomas Jefferson's "opinion" is a founding principle of our Republic & that is a FACT. If you don't like that FACT, find another country to live in. It is not my opinion or interpretation; it's right there in our founding documents. The UN Human Rights Declaration is a convoluted mess like the South African constitution. Our Constitution explicitly spells out the duties of the federal government & if it doesn't say it, they can't do it. It goes on in the Bill of Rights to name some specific rights that are a high priority but also says the list isn't all inclusive. You said it yourself, it says what the government can't do, not what it must or should do. The verbiage in other foreign documents you reference are vague & contradictory. If people have the right to vacation time, the business owner doesn't have the right to run his own business as he sees fit. It's literally his business. The right to vacation empowers the government over private business. Starting to get the point? Also, what authority does the UN have? Referencing anything from that worthless organization is a cop out. Still waiting on that list of countries other than the US that secures the right to keep & bear arms.

Can I own a TOW missile system? Yes or I should at least be able to (not sure what the exact federal statue is on that). Again, not my "opinion"; just read what James Madison had to say about cannons. James Madison happens to be sorta consequential when it comes to the Bill of Rights. When asked about private ownership of cannons to protect privately owned ships, Madison's answer was absolute & unambiguous; yes, the 2nd Amendment applies to cannons. If cannons in the late 18th century; then TOW missiles in the 21st. Can convicted felons? No, they have been adjudicated & their rights have been deprived through due process (operative word being "convicted"). Can you yell fire in a crowded theater? Yes, if there's a fire. What you cannot do is make a call to action based on a lie, particularly if it results in harm. Calls to action are not covered under the 1st Amendment. I can say I don't like Biden; you can say you don't like Trump. What neither one of us or anyone else say is the President needs to be assassinated. Incitement to violence (and I me actual violence) is not free speech.

Whether the the parents at these meetings actually did anything wrong misses the point. It doesn't matter if they charged the board members & beat them senseless. Unless it was bombed by Al Qaeda, what happens at a local school board meeting isn't anything the Federal Bureau of Investigation should be sticking their f*cking noses into. That's the job of the local cops! Again, it's a power the federal government should not have, full stop. Another example, what the hell was the FBI doing raiding James O'Keefe over a lost diary? Since when do lost diaries fall under the purview of the damn FBI? To defend this gross overreach of power is to defend authoritarian statism enforced by secret police.
Okay, you meant 14th. I thought you might have made a typo or something. I said I got your point. Don’t get your panties in a wad over it. It’s not my interpretation for the federal government to not provide social security, welfare, Medicaid, etc. Read up on the Founders. It all goes back to the FACT that the founding principle in our Republic is that the role of government to secure our rights. You don’t have to like it but our country being founded on that is a FACT. As far as the general welfare clause, A) in the preamble which simply explains why the Constitution exists & holds no legal weight and B) if that’s all it takes to justify a federal power, why not simply stop there? Why was the rest of the Constitution written? If you want to point to “general welfare” as a reason to confiscate guns, then I would refer you to the 2nd Amendment. The rest of the Constitution spells HOW general welfare & everything else in the preamble is to be achieved.

George Carlin, as funny, intelligent, & articulate as he was, his name isn’t on the Declaration of Independence or the US Constitution. Although I enjoy a lot of what he said, I don’t agree with everything. He was an atheist comedian. If you want to live in a George Carlin world where you have no rights, you can move to literally any other country in the world. I’ll take George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, & the like over Carlin on matters of government & civics any day.
