I love the ignrance of people saying Obama gave the Iranains money. What part of the simple fact that IT WAS THEIR MONEY is to complicated to understand.

Capt tom Brown is it ransom if you pay it with the person you are giving the money to own money?

Yes it was their money but there was also outstanding claims against that pot of money including the unpaid legal settlement to the Marine Barracks Bombing victims families of 1983. So there are two legitimate sides to the issue of whose money it was.

SPC Erich Guenther - America already has the money for the bombing they took it from the money we owed them.

This was not the current Government of Iranian's money. Iran was a Constitutional Monarchy, prior to 1979. It was ruled by the Shah of Iran- a HUGE US ALLY before the rug was pulled out from under him by President Jimmy Carter. The Iranian revolution via the religious leader- Ayatollah Khomeini & the mullah's took power shortly after that & took over the US Embassy- taking the 444 US Embassy's American employees hostage.

Thankfully they were freed, upon the inauguration of President Ronald Reagan in 1981.

At the very least this money belongs to the Iranian people- whom many of them do not support their Islamist government's control & spreading of terror throughout the world. They are largely powerless under the current Iranian oppressive government to change things.

Of course Obama had a good reason for doing so, but no one knows what it was and how much good it did. He did pay ransom for his favorite POW, Sgt Bowie Berghdal, $400M or so, plus sending 5 terrorists back into the field. What a great man!

Well it was their money to begin with. If we had kept it the interest would have just piled up.
