Hmmm... How come there are no posts questioning the integrity of these generals and insisting they must have sold out for either money or future jobs promises, like appeared in the last thread about generals endorsing a candidate?

Why not? In the early days of Colonial America, elections were held in a public place, usually outside the town church where the sheriff would set up a table with two clerks, one to record the votes for each of two candidates. The candidates sat at either end of the table. Each voter stepped forward to the sheriff, one at a time, and announced their vote. The appropriate clerk would record the vote while the candidate thanked the voter. Liquor flowed freely. Now, who wouldn't like to do that today? At least the dead couldn't vote.
