Over the last 16 years we've stopped fighting wars and started trying to make friends. That's not how you win wars. At this point, being there any longer is a fruitless endeavor in my opinion. With Bin Laden gone, I think we're ok to withdraw completely and let things be as they may. Local forces have shown that they have no desire to pick up any slack. That country is rooted in the stone age and it would probably take 100 years to turn it around. But at that point you'd have multiple generations that know nothing but war and violence so you'd still find yourself at a stalemate.

Got that right. Region has been in turmoil for thousands of years. Nothing US can do is ever going to change that.

Up until the mid-70s it looked like it was moving up. One of their kings had traveled to Europe and was trying to westernize the country. Then a coup happened..

My big in question is will this work because Foreign Legion concept had only really mixed results and there was always huge accountability problems because the Foreign Legion was ranked with desertion constantly and most units were disciplined but quite a few had some very bad disciplinary problems with corrupt officers who either did nothing to stop some atrocities or actually ordered them to do it in some cases just don't see it as viable mean for us to use.
