Because we (the US) have a deep and long-term relationship with Saudi oil interests. The West has always provided the know-how and labor (including machines) to extract the oil from beneath Saudi Arabia. The West has also developed and perfected the oil refining process. These things are the things that the Saudis have not had the ability or desire to do for themselves. So they allow us to do it for them. In exchange for extracting the oil, we get a sweet deal on access to the Middle East. During Gulf War I, the US operated almost exclusively from Saudi Arabia. Again, self-defense is not something the Saudis really want to, or are capable of doing for themselves. So they allow us access to their country and state of the art bases.
This is why on 9/11/01 the Saudis were granted a special waiver to fly out of the US when all other air traffic was grounded. This is why the Saudi connection to the 9/11/01 hijackers was kept all but secret. This is why the "mystery muslim" was kept out of the investigation after the Boston Marathon bombing and again, allowed to fly out of the US with no public knowledge after having met with Michelle Obama.
So until/unless we break our dependency on Saudi oil, this will continue.

Thanks. That was an excellent breakdown. And seeing that much of the Obama's energy policies was trying to reduce our dependency on Saudi oil, it is no surprise that he's condemned by the oil and fossil fuel industry that deals with Middle East in particular Saudi Arabia.

I hope Trump rectifies one thing. If you look at the past few years 95% estimated of the immigrants being allowed into this country were Muslim, which I am not opposed to if cleared. But only about 50 or so Christians and other non-Muslims where admitted from Syria and Iraq. The non-Muslim were being persecuted, thus have grounds for asylum but the past administration did little to bring them over???????????????
