We should definitely put more money into the one thing the country is actually better than any other country at. I mean, if my car has the biggest and fastest engine around, but has crappy wheels and transmission, it makes perfect sense to put a turbo on the engine. What sense does it make to put new tires and transmission on a car if the engine is only 10x as good as the next guy's engine?

You'll still want to make sure you're changing the spark plugs and doing regular oil changes lest the "Great Engine" become not so great. Yes, we need to fix the rest of the car but you can't neglect the maintenance on the parts that work.

PFC Jonathan Albano - I agree. But, if your tires are dry-rotted and your transmission is shot... a fancy new engine isn't going to help you any.

MAJ Bryan Zeski - I understand where you're coming from and agree with your premise. I differ on you in seeing the increase as a new engine. I personally see it more as preventative maintenance. As such, I'm ok with the increase in the capacity of keeping what's working well maintained so that we can focus more effort on the things needing replaced/rebuilt rather than creating extra work in the long run.
