Mixed in with the circus performance of Sundays debate, was some substance. In fact, the most important issue facing our nation, and the world really, was mentioned. Each candidate actually answered the question and stated their position. However, the significance was lost on the moderators. They were too busy trying to keep the circus going. A path to either pull away from or rush into WW III was brushed aside without either moderator grasping the big picture.
Donald Trump broke from the war hawks of both the Republican and Democratic party in stating his position on Aleppo, Syria. Trump articulated a Libertarian viewpoint. It is one that Gary Johnson would have stated if he knew where Aleppo was and what was going on there. All the moderators cared about was pointing out the difference between Trump and Pence, or painting him as being unsympathetic to the war victims.
The notion of creating a no-fly zone (Mrs. Clinton's & establishment Republican's plan) is preposterous. That would put the US military even closer to direct military conflict with Russia than we already are. It risks merging all the simmering conflicts into one great conflict, WW III.
The war keeps getting bigger. Mrs. Clinton and President Obama took us to war in Libya and Syria on the pretense of saving a few thousand civilian lives. Perhaps they were right, that Gaddafi and Assad would have brutally put down the uprisings and five to ten thousand revolutionaries would have been slaughtered. Now, there are hundreds of thousands dead, millions of refugees, one failed state, one state in chaos and war, and a new, battle hardened terrorist threat. Now Mrs. Clinton wants to double down and challenge Russia and Iran over Syrian airspace.
Russia and Iran are not giving up Syria. Syria has been theirs for decades. The most humanitarian action that the US can take is to withdraw, let the war end, and let the country heal. Ratcheting up the pressure and military presence in Syria only exacerbates the problem and risks starting WW III.
So keep that in mind as you decide who to vote for. Do you want a terribly flawed candidate who will prevent, or at least postpone WW III. Or do you want a terribly flawed, historic first woman POTUS who will rush towards WW III?
