When the FBI sees a drug cartel or bank robbers, do they call some contractor to do the investigation and evidence gathering. In Cyber, you lose the chain of evidence if you do not have the original server, gun, or criminal element. IF you allow the contractor to give you a picture of the gun, that is not evidence to take into court. So, why did the FBI not collect evidence? I thought we go to their facilities in Quantico to learn good evidence collection techniques.....do they only train...and not practice their training.

In his testimony in January on the cyber attacks, then-director of the FBI James Comey said the agency never got access to the machines themselves, but obtained access to the forensics from a review of the system performed by CrowdStrike, a third-party cybersecurity firm.
"We got the forensics from the pros that they hired which -- again, best practice is always to get access to the machines themselves, but this my folks tell me was an appropriate substitute," Comey said.
"The DNC coordinated with the FBI and federal intelligence agencies and provided everything they requested, including copies of DNC servers," Watson said. She added that the copy contains the same information as the physical server.

Jim - I believe you already know the answer as to "...why did the FBI not collect evidence... ". Comey said it was acceptable that a third party contractor provide forensic evidence on copies of DNC servers. Also, Comey never ordered that FBI to analyze the physical DNC servers. Seriously?

When the FBI raided Cohen, Trump's lawyer's office and house, they took images of the servers and not the actual servers. So are you saying none of that info will be admissible in court?

No, the images taken by Law Enforcement and kept in a chain of custody is GOOD. When they do that, they make a second copy that they can use to run forensics, but you have the original is not touched, until/unless needed in court. Chain of custody is key....in law enforcement.
