He should have applied for naturalization! especially while still serving. 12 years service. If he was honorably discharged and was legally in the US for 3 years he would have been eligible for U.S. citizenship. If he were a citizen he would have done prison time and would not have been deported. Maybe he still can apply if his arrest was the only time he has been in trouble.

He should attempt to get his green card back. But he as an adult should know that this type of drug is illegal. And he was putting his immigration status at risk. Hard to feel sorry for a guy or a former soldier who is breaking the law. He had more than one opportunity to get his immigration status elevated from and I95A or I95B card to a Citizen Status prior to being arrested and deported. But the law is the law. It sucks. There should be a way that the VA can step in and assist with his recovery and immigration status. But Highly Unlikely with Obama in office. Good luck to him and those others whom are in the same boat.....just a thought.

I agree that he broke the law and should receive punishment for possession of heroin, however, in my opinion any immigrant (legal or illegal) should have the ability to become a United States citizen and should not risk deportation.
