In the first raid on a major North Vietnamese industrial target, U.S. Air Force planes destroy a thermal power plant at Uong Bi, l4 miles north of Haiphong. The plant reportedly supplied about 15 percent of North Vietnam’s total electric power production.

Thanks for reminding us that even during the mid-1960's aircraft could successfully attack industrial targets in North Vietnam SP5 Mark Kuzinski. This raid included attacks on Haiphong harbor as well. The thermal power plant at Uong Bi, was attacked again during Operation Linebacker I. Here is an image of the current thermal power plant at Uong Bi.
I was reminded of the intense British Royal Air Force efforts to bomb the Ruhr river dams during Operation Chastise was on 16–17 May 1943.
