Thanks TSgt Joe C. for letting some of us know that on February 3, 1917 President Woodrow Wilson spoke for two hours before a historic session of Congress to announce that the United States was breaking diplomatic relations with Germany.

I find it interesting one of My own Relatives, Charles Evans Hughes, (1986-1948) who was the Republican Candidate for President of the United States was defeated by the Democrat, Woodrow Wilson in 1916 by a very narrow margin. Hughes was depicted as a hawk but it was Wilson who was President when WWI was entered by the US. Hughes had been a two term Governor of New York, having defeated William Randolph Hearst both times. Hughes also was was a Justice on the US Supreme Court and resigned that position to run for President. Later in Hughes career He became the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court (1930 to 1941) and also at another point had been Secretary of State for the United States (1921-1925) .
