What ever happened to, for the duration? That seemed to have ended sometime between WWII and Viet Nam. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the idea of being away from home in some third world shithole any more than anyone else, I do wonder what we are accomplishing with a 12 month rotation. We don't build much of a rapport with the locals as we would if we were there for an extended period. Maybe we need to completely overhaul the ROE. Perhaps the either your with us or against us approach would work better.

Sir, Duffelblog :) On a more truthful note, using the Reserves and National guard as office temps to avoid growing the AD force to fulfill commitments has gutted both. This is why we need to have a plan follow it and get out instead of maintaining a presence that will see generational deployments.
