We will never have a "great power war" against Russia or China. Even when we focused the entire Army on the Fulda Gap during the Cold War, the Russians had a vast numerical advantage. We would say we had the quality edge, but as the saying used to go "quantity has a quality all its own". But the fact is that it is our nuclear force that keeps us safe from Russia attacks, not divisions ready to go to Europe or China and refight WWII.

The military has become so institutionalized to getting everything they ask for that they are always crying wolf when they can't get everything they want to be prepared against an absolute worse case scenario. How is it that we spend more than double what all our adversaries put together do on defense, yet can't seem to be able to meet their threat? What are we doing wrong with our money that they are doing right? Or maybe the hand wringing is all bullshit to get more toys.

He's doing when Generals ( and subordinate department heads in business) do, trying to get a bigger budget and more people.

Will we ever be ready for a big war? Will our "superior" jet fighters have an advantage? If the enemy is occupying the coastal fronts and inland it is already at an advantage. You just never know what will happen in the next war.

Thanks blue falcon. There are things you say, things you think you want to say, and things you keep to your damn self. This falls into the last section. If you think telling them we'd get our butts handed to us by any of those countries will do anything to change what is currently happening, THEY'RE THE ONES WHO VOTED FOR THIS MESS!!! Sorry General, but what you do not take into account is while numerically they do have more than us, they do not have the training we do. You could take SFC Snuffy give him 30 days in the box and it'll all come back to him before the end of the third week. Stop selling us short, and stop selling "fear". You would not have a shortage of men and women ready to go, you'd have a shortage of transportation to get them to units who'll need them. If we really want to put the "fear of God" in them? Use those often used things called sanctions. While it's not as sexy as dropping ordinance on them or throwing a tomahawk or fifteen, but it has the ability to crush the spirit rather than galvanize theirs. Level enough on them to force their hand in regards to Russia. China we might have a problem being they "own" significant parts of America as it is, and we do owe them a decent chunk of cash. This is what we get when we outsource IMO. Sometimes the pen is mightier than the sword. Lets use the ink before we use the round.
