He stole data because he was a egotistical admin who didn't get his way, got in trouble, and had a tantrum. He stole information, searching through files he was not authorized to access, and even used stolen credentials. If a regular Joe Shmo neighbor of yours broke into your home and those of other neighbors and happened to confirm evidence that another neighbor has been selling alcohol to the teens in the neighborhood, is Joe a hero?

Snowden was trusted with the nations secrets and to report wrong-doing if discovered through the proper channels. Are we really going to believe nothing would have come from any efforts on his part to use the proper channels? That is an incredibly lame excuse on his part and the fact he never even tried to report what he believed was illegal activity only hurts his position.

I hope he is one day captured and put in jail for the maximum punishment allowed by the law. He's a traitor.

Anybody who has ever worked for the CIA knows that there is a very specific process that has to be used to report wrongdoing, and Snowden did not perform the required notifications, at any time, through any level, to anybody.

What Snowden is doing is trying to play down the fact that he was recruited by the Russians, BEFORE he got the job at the NSA/BAH, and both he and his Russian handlers knew about the exploitable weakness in the way "clearances" we being granted, and both the Russians and Snowden knew that once he was in place at the Kunia RSOC (in Hawaii) and the data thefts began that there would come a time when he had to be exfiltrated or risk arrest. They were able to effect Snowden escaping the country, then leaking a small fraction of what he stole to the media to create a political distraction. Thusly, the media remains distracted, not paying attention to what Snowden really is, how he got his job, and just when was he recruited as a spy for Russia.

He did not steal classified information for the public good, and he did not steal the classified materials because the government had violated the Constitution, and rather those were a tiny, tiny fragment of what he stole, and these were used to create distraction about the true theft, that did not implicate these documents.

He did not act as a patriot, but rather he acted as a spy, who had profound emotional and psychiatric problems, and who was never actual fit to work in any position of trust, his entire life.

Compare the motives of Manning with the motives of Snowden, and pay careful attention to the timelines of both, the intersections, and which of them was doing what, where and when.

SFC George Smith A portion of the security of a network is that the outside doesn't know what defenses and or traps are involved. Think of setting up a perimeter protection. If one were to provide a detailed map of where the trip wires etc are located it would be a lot easier to get in and out undetected. I am thinking that maybe this is some of what Snowden has provided to the Russians.

Interesting, I know there was a petition and talk of trying to get Snowden a pardon.
