MSgt (Join to see) and CSM Michael Chavaree Posts like this helps to bring about a greater awareness of what is going on. There are groups working to prevent suicide in military members and we have a service available 24/7 where those needing help can reach out for support. Our group is not connected to the V.A. so it will not affect any benefits and service members can join annoymously.
Here is a link to our Newsletter showing the services that we are going to provide to veterans with PTSD, TBI, and that are severely disabled, along with their families: https://www.smore.com/x19ep and our next online meeting is Thursday, March 31, at 7:00 PM EST for all service members interested in joining that suffer from PTSD, TBI, MST, and that are severely disabled (or) for individuals that would like to Volunteer to help other veterans in this very important endeavor.

CPT (Join to see) thanks for sharing that information with MSgt (Join to see) and CSM Michael Chavaree. I hope that they can join us for a webinar on 4/7/2016 Thursday evening at 7:00 PM EST. it would be great to have more advocates out there getting veterans to us that need additonal support. Our Mission is to roll out a proven solution for many of the challenges Active Duty Service Members, Disabled Veterans, and their families experience.  We’ll be providing full collaborative communities, utilizing virtual reality tools to help stop the 22 Veteran PTSD suicides per day. All the communications occur in a 3D interactive, immersive virtual environment. We've successfully used these tools in the past to save lives and will continue to save more veterans and active duty members. Please connect with me offline if you want to help other veterans at: [login to see]

COL Mikel J. Burroughs - Thank you and CPT (Join to see) - for the great information. I am certainly passing this information to the groups that I am a member of and hope that we can get some participation in your webinar and other training. I really do believe that if we all work on this together we can make a huge difference and save some lives.

Well here were are a little while later after we were just discussing this topic. We had a tragic event in our command. This time it wasn't the service member, it was his spouse, kids and family dog :( It's the unthinkable, nobody can wrap their heads around it.

I agree this is absolutely tragic. I hope we can get ahead and stay ahead of this. Undortunately access to help and the fear of being taken away from the line keep folks from reaching out.

There definitely is a stigma about coming forward for help which is something top brass is trying hard to change. I like that McRaven mentioned it, I just hope they can change it

I know a few people at the Durham VA/Veterans the perception seems punitive. Like when you go in for help, you are treated like a criminal. If a person is hyper-vigilant or stressed out, the thought of being Baker Acted, so-to-speak does very little to help. In fact, makes it work. The stigma, mistrust (Panic Buttons in classes) and medications, seems a far cry from a real one. CPT (Join to see)
