A classmate and friend of mine is nearing the end of his most recent six-month tour on the international space station SP5 Mark Kuzinski. Each time this US Army LTC has trained in Russia as he was prepped for the deployment to the Soyuz space station. At the end of the mission he goes back to Russia.
While we are playing military chess games with Russia in eastern Europe, the Crimea and Syria we still work together in other areas. that is a good thing as far as I am concerned.
Our relations with Russia have come a long way since Gary Powers was shot down in 1960 in his U-2.
Now we are able to land in Russia which is probably safer than Turkey at this moment for emergency landings. The fact that Russian observers were on board indicates to me that the plane was modified to be an "export model" so that our most "sensitive" equipment and procedures would not be displayed.
