LTC Ivan Raiklin, Esq. I wonder what effect this will have on ISIS's desire to reestablish themselves in the territory now controlled by Kurdish forces and how this will effect YPG, PYD , SDF operations? The Kurds fighting under the SDF have driven IS out of thousands of sq miles of Syrian territory and established control along much of Turkey's border with Syria. In case anyone has forgotten, two months ago SDF fighters captured the de facto IS capital of Raqqa and were advancing south-eastwards into the neighbouring province of Deir al-Zour - the last major ISIS foothold in Syria.
Their success has brought the Kurdish forces into direct contact with Russian-supported Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed rebels, triggering clashes that have raised tensions between competing world powers. Perhaps this has something to do with the withdrawal of weapons to them.
