We've trained them for years but the results were abysmal. The Iraqi Special Ops units are top notch but your average conscript doesn't fare so well. My understanding is it's more than a lack of fighting spirit it has to do with the Sunni-Shiite rift. There are claims the Shiite government wasn't providing adequate support to the Sunni troops last year when they got overran. Sounds like bs to me since they had numerical superiority not to mention tanks and weapons. Although ISIS had the "frankentrucks." Whatever the case that issue needs to be addressed first.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs Sir, I think we're going to see mission creep and should expect more deployments.

If anyone has noticed we've been sending "trainers" in increasing numbers. Starting last fall the number deployed as "trainers" has increased with each successive deployment.
