War with Russia is such a ridiculous speculation that I can't even begin to think about it. Putin is using US as a boogeyman to solidify our hold on power in Russia and we are helping him. He builds his defenses and rattles his sabers to add theater to his show. But will it lead to actual war? Only if we allow ourselves to be sucked in (or suckered), an eventuality that Putin himself would fear if he had any actual ambitions to wage war. But y'all go right ahead making plans and schemes. Enjoy. Please, never lose sight of the real enemy, the death cult in the Middle East who actually would attempt to wage war even in the face of sure disaster.

It's speculation, but not as ridiculous as all that. Leftists here and abroad would literally rather push us into a war with Russia than allow Trump to be successful or even simply govern.

The modern battlefield is untenable for ground forces if the enemy has air superiority. Without the Air Force providing air cover, and flying ground support (A-10?) missions the Army on the ground is going have a rough time.

I'm not an artilleryman, but putting all the air defense eggs in that basket isn't going to help a lot when the MiGs are flying overhead.

What is old becomes new again...been here before. Saw this when I studied OPFOR and Soviet Doctrine. We ćan only assume they stuck with what worked, and improved what didn't.
- the Soviets got their ass handed to them by the Luftwaffe. They vowed never again. They planned an air defense system per kilometer. That will be tough going for marauding aircraft. Now throw in the S500 systems.
- Soviet artillery is not any less lethal. There may not be the RAG and DAG in lazy Ws anymore but they have the systems, some new and improved. Back in the day, they planned and could cover an indirect fire control measure on almost every terrain feature. Rolling barrages and fire boxes everywhere.
- NBC assets were available down to the Motorized Regiment level. Regimental Commanders could slime their flanks at will to keep offensive pressure going without asking anyone.
- in 1980, we had the AirLand battle doctrine to help allied forces fight in Europe. Harass and pick apart Soviet Forces with deep fires and close air support, along with operational and strategic fires. Ground forces were fighting a series of delays. The aim: buy time to deploy more forces to Europe and counter attack....and not have to Nuke each other. 11th ACR knew they were a speed bump.
- Army doctrine in the 80s and 90s along with training at the time reinforced this. we pulled air guard. We practiced operating in MOPP4. We practiced being on the extended offensive. We practiced defending and counter attacking and pursuit.
-Air dominance was not assured.

So no surprise . What is old is new again.
