I have an Intel PCIEX SSD in my ASUS X99 pro water cooled rig. I have been meaning to do a full Mint install on it, most of the time I run Linux in VMware, just because work and school require that I have a M$ build.
SSD's as we know them are going to be history very soon, the new "gumstick" M.2 form factor is much smaller and faster than a traditional SSD. You are going to see PC's get very small in the near future.

I've seen they've already taken servers by storm. I think it'll be a few years before it hits homes for the average, though. Then again, I don't buy new laptops. Don't need them for their price.

SGT (Join to see) All 3 of my machines, 1 Windows 10 (gaming) and 2 Linux Mint (Laptop and HTPC), use an SSD for their main drive, and they are running like a dream. I was an early adopter of SSD's in 2010, and have seen the reliability and storage capacity increase. Drives built in 2010 tended to have problems not only with their controller software, but with the reliability of their memory chips. We were happy if a drive lasted a year without a hiccup.

On a side note, since large sized SSD's were cost prohibitive back then, I used to install Windows like I do my Linux installs, the home folder is on a different drive. In Windows, there is a whole rigamarole you have to go through to do this, and the end result can be mildly unstable. I can dig up the "How To" info if anyone is interested. It is interesting reading.

SGT (Join to see) - I have been watching them. What is funny, in the latest Windows 10 update, they included the Vulkan API. Even though Microsoft has nothing to do with it.

SSgt Mark Lines - Maybe that had something to do with the Canonical collaboration.

SGT (Join to see) - I think that might be it. I just hope Vulkan has a better adoption rate than Mantle did.

I believe you. My 250 GB Evo has lasted for ~3 years and I've wiped it at least 7 times.
