Thanks for the enlightening video, SGT John " Mac " McConnell.
My father, then Ensign Jack Curlee, went to Enewetak Atoll, but months after the Battle of Eniwetok occurred. When the battle started on 18FEB44, my father was a Seaman Apprentice in the V-12 program at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. Upon completion of Midshipmen School and commissioning, he was assigned to USS LST-78 as the engineering officer. They left Pearl Harbor on 12DEC44 and arrived at Enewetak (Eniwetok) Atoll on 28DEC44.
Gratefully, he missed the bad stuff, but while underway to Enewetak Atoll he became a member of the Domain of the Golden Dragon, by crossing the International Date Line, possibly on 19DEC44.
