The ship or the Marine? The ship is the first of its class, but Chesty was by no means the first USMC legend, great though he was.

I did mean the Marine, although the ship is legendary for sure. SSgt Brose, thank you for your correction, and I stand corrected. Here are at least 3 previous to Chesty Puller from the article shared below. Of course the legend of Lt. Gen Chester "Chesty" Puller was burned into my mind in boot camp and so he stood out to me; but I appreciate your making the point and causing me to do a little reading and research and polish my brass from 40 years ago. Upon review I do remember learning about many of these amazing men in boot camp...and of course there have been many more since these. I did some additional reading on all 11 of these decorated Marines, good stuff.
