Technically the carrier can't, but its air wing and battle group can. Carriers never travel alone. Underneath the carrier will be a sub to make sure enemy torpedoes don't interfere. The Vinny also has 90 or so aircraft including jamming planes, radar warning planes and good old fighters. Additionally, she'll have an AEGIS destroyer or cruiser with her that has missiles on board that can "shoot down missiles."

Having been on a carrier, my first reaction (other than wondering when an F-18 became a stealth jet) was that it was not a carrier's freaking job to shoot down ballistic missiles. They coordinate the individual Aegis systems into one big picture for everyone to see and export a world of hurt on whoever is dumb enough to try to start something with a carrier strike group.

WOW Talk about a load of crap... Four Letters kill this from the rip, CIWS its also useful against Planes, boats, birds (don't ask) And no Battle Group is floating with out AEGIS.
There is only two reasons for this kind of crap: 1: This is a false feed story meant to make the other side think we have a vulnerability they can exploit. When in actuality its a Trap. or 2: This is propaganda from the left to try and make Trump and the Military look like idiots. Ether way it will have the added effect of placing men and women in danger when the other side decides to test the theory.
