USS Independence leaves naval base

My first home in Japan and introduction to life in the Fleet makes her final voyage from Washington State to Texas to be scrapped. How many of you can call yourselves naval personnel onboard forward-deployed vessels? A forward-deployed tour of duty is truly a unique type of experience.

My 1st was USS Kittanning, thenter the Degousing Unit, NAB Coronado. Went back to Yokosuka last year 28 years after I left it only to see YTB787 sitting out in the bay rusting away. Sad day for me.
