Waste, Fraud, and Abuse (and stupidity)
We have all seen it someone wanting the latest and shiniest items. they see it in a James Bond film or on CSI or some other tv show and man do they think that would be cool to have. Vendors selling products we don't need to people that don't understand them.
I once had an O try and force me to order a 4500 dollar fax. I refused we had 2 we were about to DRMO that worked just fine (same bells and whistles). He wanted a shiny NEW one. He tried to end run me and get it purchased with out my ok, or the proper paperwork. It did not end well for him.
The fact the VA is doing this is no surprise to me, happens all the time with them. There is ZERO oversight at the VA that I am 100% sure of.

The VA has the personnel and the budget of some small nations. There will be stupidity, just like our government and their $1000 toilet seats, paying grants to people who create 'art' with their own feces, etc. we need serious bean counting across the boards.

You ant fooling, I wonder how much of the Billions we spend each year is on stupid stuff. Would be nice if we could actually PUNSIH people for this kind of insanity. My issue with the VA is they do this and then deny vets care because they have no money.

CPO (Join to see) - I saw a base in Germany get a $12 million dollar bowling alley in Schweinfurt, Germany for Ledward Barracks. It was already closed down due to BRAC, but up it went and the keys went to the German Army. In that case, the budget for it was probably 5 years prior, but a contract is a contract. They need to put in a clause that states te government wil pay a penalty for canceling but never have to pay full price. Just like an engine part that requires more to buy a certain component to repair than th cost to r place the entire engine assembly. Or the same exact part that is maintained in the motor pool costs $1.48, but if it is needed in aviation benchstock the part skyrockets to $87.48. My favorite was in Iraq when the government leased a fleet of xyz vehicles monthly and continued using them for years. The cost for each vehicle spent was 5x the actual cost of just buying it.
