I take my paps to Altoona VA and while the service there has been decent thus far...I can recall one incident off of the top of my head where someone in a very nice suit was lead out in cuffs.
Although to be fair, about 6 years ago I was talking with one of the nurses there and her opinions on treatment included euthanasia of all veterans and quite frankly this is PA, we put crazy in our water.

Once again an unjustified attack on the VA. I have been with the VAMC for many years now and always got good service. When I developed Prostate cancer, I was treated promptly and well. When I filed for disability, I made sure I did the proper paperwork and got my award in a very short time. IMO, many of the complaints about the VA are by Veterans that do not follow the established procedures, or they are asking for something they cannot support.
Are there problems? Of course. There always will be in such an operation. But, no worse than a civilian hospital.

MSG You have been lucky in dealing with the VA, my other half almost died because of their screw up. I can site case after case and article after article of the VA's incompetence and corruption going back to the VA's inception in the 1920's. You could go even further back with the Bureau of Pensions and its corruption. The first VA Administrator Charles Forbes made a fortune by corrupting what the VA was spose to be doing. While he ended up in Prison for a year over it the damage was done and the tone was set.
Many Vets do not have the time, Patience, or understanding of the system that has been rigged to make them jump through endless red tape and hoops for simple services. The system has been rigged to drive Vets away. My other half loathes dealing with the VA when she has to call them its always the same, multiple transfers several disconnects and voice mails and endless system of never helping. It took her 3 days just to change her mailing address when she moved, because she had to contact 4 different departments to have it changed in each one. The inefficiency allows the corruption, no one is held accountable for their actions at the VA. You may just be lucky, the VA you use may have managed to avoid most of the taint, but understand it wont last forever and at some point they will send one of their Admins in hiding and yours too will end up like the others. They treat the Administrators like Catholic Priests during the sex abuse scandal "move them to another facility and tell everyone they are gone and have been punished while covering it all up"
I will never Trust the VA!!!

CPO (Join to see) - I am sorry you and yours had a bad experience with the VA. I have been to 5 different VAMCs over the past 20 years and got very good treatment, especially with the volume they must deal with.

It isn't just her. I dealt with this with my Grandfather and his Vet buddies. We would load up the Vehicle me my Grandfather and three of his buddy's that couldn't drive, we would drive the 3 hours to the only VA hospital in our region and then help them to their appointments. As a Teen I didn't understand but I do now. Each time they would find out their appointments had been canceled / moved to the next day / week / month, with no notifications. They would be sent on endless fill out this form take it to person in other building / floor / location only to be then told it was the wrong form. Rinse lather repeat. I am 4th Generation Military and I have seen this my whole life. You have really lucked out but I have seen to much to ever change my mind. I am past the tipping point on my disgust with the system.

CPO (Join to see) - Sorry you have had trouble with the VA. One of the best ways to deal with the VA for medical is through myhealthevet. I have been signed up since it started and has been very helpful

Most current statistics I could find, but it’s not the number of Vets, but the level of the positions.
VA has the largest percentage of Veteran employees among civilian agencies -- approximately 30 percent -- and is increasing its number of regional employment coordinators to give Veterans more access to VA jobs.Sep 3, 2010

If we "fixed" the banking system and they were too big to fail I think the VA is too big to fail we need a veteran that has been through the system to start the process of healing (literally and figuratively)

CPO (Join to see) - While that may have been the case several years ago, it is not now. Also that was not a failure of the system, it was about a few different VA hospitals, clinics and OP facilities. I am a 100% disabled veteran, I use the VA for all my medical needs and have never had a problem.

SN Ron Jett - But it is currently the system did you read the article? It was written Dec 11th 2017, This IS currently happening, and is not isolated or just a few hospitals. In fact a good VA facility is the rarity / exception to the rule. We are averaging a scandal once every 2 months at this point, we are still having investigations from 10 years ago that have not been finished. Its all just quietly brushed under the carpet, people moved around, and investigations being done in house or if an outside (say congress) are stonewalled.

CPO (Join to see) - Yes I read the article, I know when it was posted. This article is about a single hospital. Are there other problem hospitals in the system...probably. But the problems at these hospitals are with the administrator, not the VA. The VA has guidelines for the administrators to follow, some don't. I am a 100% disabled combat vet. I have been in the system since 2002 and have never had a problem. I don't even have private insurance, as all my medical is through the VA
